Medical

Medical Care brings together the information from almost all disciplines into one treatment and monitoring plan. Diagnosis is based on thorough clinical evaluation and then any recommended investigations or tests to arrive at a therapeutic strategy.

At Parkside we have an excellent range of diagnostic aids and frequently discuss more challenging cases amongst the staff as well as access to our own libraries and internet resources. The practice principle runs an international veterinary professional's discussion list and website which reflects our commitment to keeping abreast of current knowledge.

Diagnosis in veterinary medicine depends on close observation. Pet owners can help tremendously by noting details of their pets condition and often by keeping a diary of events: accurately monitoring how much a pet drinks or eats , whether certain brands or flavours of food help or hinder signs, whether there have been domestic changes and the less pleasant aspects of noting colour and texture of body wastes and so forth.

Pet animals are very good at hiding their problems and the observant owner will allow early intervention.

important NOTES

There is insufficient space here to list all the breed and species predispositions to illnesses but we would encourage owners to research these and be aware. Contemporary knowledge changes such lists frequently.

Age of pets has a strong bearing on incidence of problems and there are good arguments for preventative checks throughout a pet's lifetime.

As you will see from the relevant sections of this website we have our own in-house laboratory, ECG, ultrasound, x-ray systems, facilities for endoscopy and laparoscopy and other diagnostic tools as well as a large stock of medicines and diets on-hand. We have daily drug deliveries during the week and rapid access to most treatments.

Barclay and Purdy
"No, Barclay. I'm sleeping on this open book to keep the vet's place for him. That's not the same thing as you taking one out into the garden and trying to bury it."
