Laboratory

Most modern veterinary practices have in-house laboratory facilities and Parkside does too. We run routine biochemistries, electrolytes, laser cell counting and a limited range of hormones in-house and send samples externally for a massive range of tests when appropriate. Our in-house systems can give us a basic profile in under 15 minutes from taking blood for emegency cases and we often run our two biochemistry systems together to cope with the early morning pre-operative test loads

Pre-operative blood testing is something that should be considered for all patients. While obviously the older pets and those presented as unwell are more likely candidates to show abnormal results it is simply true that clinical examination may not show early anomalies.

In addition to machine-based tests we often run manual microscopies and our nurses are very familiar with urgent cross-matches for emergency transfusions.

Barclay and Purdy

"It's one of our jobs here, Barclay."

"I know you like giving blood. You're greedy enough to do anything for a biccy. But most of the donors need to be sedated or anaesthatised to collect enough for transfusions and that makes it more expensive"
